  • Development Training

    HirePotential’s comprehensive Web Accessibility Development Training is a comprehensive session designed to give web developers and applications programmers a full understanding of:

    • Accessibility guidelines

    • Program coding techniques for accessibility

    • Testing for accessibility

    The objective of this training is to ensure that the technology a corporation develops and implements is accessible to all users, and that it complies with the guidelines of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1998 and/or WAI guidelines. You can customize your training needs.

    Web Accessibility Development Training Section 1 lists the modules. They start with basic awareness training on disability, computer accessibility, and assistive technology. The most technical module is one on creating accessible web sites and software applications, geared for web developers and software developers. Note: Additional modules are available on accessible electronic devices, such as copiers, printers, etc.

    Web accessibility training modules

    • Why Accessible Electronic and Information Technology (E&IT)? An overview of issues dealing with accessible electronic and information technology, including awareness of accessibility barriers and regulatory requirements. Includes a survey of applicable regulations, such as Section 508, Section 255, and the ADA. Also includes a discussion of assistive technology for computer accommodations. This session will be appropriate for administrative staff, policy makers, legal staff and human resources.
      Length: 2 hours. No limit on number of students.

    • Web Access Part 1: Section 508 Standards.
      A discussion of Section 508 standards website accessibility standards. Includes a discussion of software tools for evaluating website accessibility. A comparison of Section 508 and WAI guidelines will be provided.
      Length: 2 hours. No limit on number of students.

    • Web Access Part 1: WAI Standards. A discussion of Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) guidelines for web accessibility. Includes a discussion of software tools for evaluating website accessibility. A comparison of Section 508 and WAI guidelines will be provided.
      Length: 2 hours. No limit on number of students.

    • Web Access Part 2: Accessibility Techniques.
      A survey of techniques for making websites accessible. The session will be most useful to site developers familiar with HTML and scripting. Includes a discussion of generally useful web resources for developers, as well as resources for those using web development tools such as Dreamweaver (copyright Macromedia). This is an overview module, relating the accessibility standards to resources and techniques. It is not a hands-on, computer lab module, but would be a prerequisite for such a module.
      Length: 4 hours. No limit on number of students, although it will be most useful to those familiar with the web standards

    • Software Accessibility Guidelines: Standards and Techniques.
      A discussion of Section 508 software accessibility standards, including a discussion of techniques and checklists for evaluating application software accessibility. Software development guidelines will be discussed.
      Length: 2 hours. No limit on number of students.

    • Web Access Lab. This is a hands-on computer lab for web developers to learn and practice using web development tools such as Dreamweaver (copyright Macromedia) to create accessible websites. The students will learn how to assess their designs and modify them to pass the required accessibility criteria.
      Length: 8 hours. Limit of 10 students, depending on lab resources available.
